14k gold overlay on sterling silver with natural hand-carved turquoise watch tips, made by the famous Zuni Pueblo husband and wife team of Robert and Bernice Leekya in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Paired with a square-case midcentury 14k yellow gold Hamilton manual-wind watch engraved "1967 George V. Carlson 25 Years Service Western Electric" on the back cap. Inside: a Model 770 movement with 22 Jewels marked Hamilton USA. Watch is in good working condition and guaranteed for 1 year from purchase. 14k gold vintage 3-size adjustable fold-over clasp and bracelet extension pieces, for wrists of 7.25", 7.5", and up to 7.75" in circumference.
Robert and Bernice Leekya both come from jewelry-making royalty among the Zuni that includes her parents, Wayne and Doris Ondelacy, and his father, Leekya Deyuse. A true convergence of American Indian jewelry-making dynasties, the Ondelacy's and Leekya's work is highly sought after to this day.
The turquoise used here was hand-carved and likely come from the Morenci mine in Arizona: known for the bright blue color, black matrix, with mica and white quartz inclusion in the stone.
Signed "RLB" on the top tip and "Hamilton 14k Lancaster, PA" on the case of the watch.
