Robert & Bernice Leekya 14k Gold Cuff w/ Turquoise Nuggets

Robert and Bernice Leekya

A stunning piece of jewelry, this cuff bracelet was made by the famous Zuni Pueblo husband and wife team of Robert and Bernice Leekya in the late 1960s to early 1970s.

Robert and Bernice Leekya both come from jewelry-making royalty among the Zuni that includes her parents, Wayne and Doris Ondelacy, and his father, Leekya Deyuse.  A true convergence of American Indian jewelry-making dynasties, the Ondelacy's and Leekya's work is highly sought after to this day.

The turquoise used here was hand-carved and likely come from the Morenci mine in Arizona: known for the bright blue color, black matrix, with mica and white quartz inclusion in the stone. These stones could have also come from the Kingman mine, as Robert and Bernice were known to favor material from this mine. Without chemical tests it is impossible to know for sure.

Being large and impressive, this also suited for a man or woman and has a unisex presentation.

Signed "RLB 14k" on the interior.
