Pair of Antique Eskimo Dolls

American Indian Artist

Pair of Alaskan Inuit dolls the larger with painted and carved walrus ivory face, finely made boots of leather and fur, white fur gloves with tan leather palms, seal skin coat with zig-zag sash detail, and coarse fur leggings.
A hood covers the head, which is covered with a human hair wig. Antique walrus ivory face, delicately carved and painted with large eyes and brows, rosy blushed cheeks and red lips all framed by the bangs of the wig. Four pom-poms of green and purple add extra detail and represent traditional dress. Circa 1910, in very good condition for its age with some wear to the bottoms of the feet.

The smaller example has an embroidered leather face, and is dressed in a wooly coat with fur trim and a large fur hood with similar coarse fur leggings and boots. Circa 1900, this doll has some wear to the fur and leather gloves.
