Sand Painting of Nightway Chant

American Indian Artist

1 foot square Sand Painting with Black Background showing the "Nightway Chant".
Artist name on back, Wilson Price of New Mexico, circa 1970-80's.
Ready to hang with wire securely attached.
Sand paintings come from traditions of the Navajo, used in healing.  The medicine man would come to the home of the ill and during a 2 day ceremony he would use colored sands to draw the appropriate symbols and figures, who are summoned to help.
The beautiful patterns and compositions produced are always destroyed at the end of the ceremony, but they have influenced both Navajo weavings, like Yei rugs, and these wall hangings.
