Cheeche de Lena Zuni Fetish Necklace

American Indian Artist

Two strands of handmade shell heishi tube beads with delicately carved birds, called a fetish or spirit animal to these Southwest American Indian peoples.

The birds on this necklace were carved by Cheeche de Lena, a rare thing to know about these necklaces as the are unsigned and unless marked with a tag they can only be identified by an expert or the artist themself.

Turquoise, spiny oyster shell, abalone, mother of pearl and jadeite are all used in this necklace. Sterling silver cones and traditional handmade hook clasp finish this fine example.

Ruby lent this amazing necklace to her friend Gretchen Jones for New York Fashion Week in February of 2012. Gretchen was showing her Fall2012 collectionand this necklace was shown with one of Gretchen's edgy Southwestern inspired looks.
