RUBY + GEORGE modern american west
Ruby + George was founded in honor of owner Ian Kennedy's paternal grandparents, who taught him the business of appreciating, buying, and selling beautiful objects. They ran an adobe-style American Indian Art and Antique shop built by Grandpa George with the help of his four sons in the mid-1980s north of Denver, Colorado. Here Apache baskets, Pueblo pottery, Navajo rugs and jewelry, and vintage Americana towered above Ian as he helped Grandma Ruby behind the counter.
"The Store" was sold just before Ian graduated from CU Boulder with a Bachelors in Fine Art Photography. After living abroad in Madrid, Spain he founded R+G using the remaining stock that went unsold along with treasures he had collected. With help from a great friend and Project Runway Season 8 winner Gretchen Jones, Ruby + George debuted at New York Fashion Week in February of 2012 adorning her models with a stunning array of statement jewelry from our family archives and inventory.
That following Spring, R+G was invited by home decor retailer One Kings Lane to be a pioneer member of their new Vintage & Market Finds venture and began to offer our "midcentury modern meets the Southwest" aesthetic to a clientele of interior designers, celebrities, and other stylish Americans. Now R+G is working to expand our reach via collaborations with other up-and-coming voices like The Woods Fine Jewelry, The Every Hostess, and 5280's Fashion Editor Georgia Benjou. We are also looking to the future with plans for adding custom pieces to our inventory and opening new markets to our products.
